Which visas do I need?

The visas that you will need to participate in the rally will depend on the route you will take:

  • Single entry Georgian tourist visa – not required for a stay of up to 360 days for citizens of the UK, EU, US, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Switzerland, among others. A full list of the countries whose citizens do not need a Georgian visa can be found here. Please contact us regarding prices, processing times and necessary documents if you do require this visa.

  • Single entry Azerbaijani tourist visa.

  • Single entry Turkmen transit visa permit (please contact us if you need a tourist visa instead).

  • Single or double entry Uzbek tourist visa.

  • Single entry Tajik tourist visa and, if required, a GBAO permit.

  • Single entry Kyrgyz tourist visa - not required for citizens of the UK, EU, USA, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland, among others. A full list of the countries whose citizens do not need a Kyrgyz visa can be found here.

Important: Real Russia is only providing a visa service and is not responsible for any other documentation; such as those needed to cross borders with vehicles, required by your trip, etc.

How much will they cost and how long will they take?

The processing time refers to the number of working days that it will take for us to obtain your visa once we have submitted your application to the relevant consulate. We will lodge your first visa application the next consular working day after we have received the documents and verified that they are all in order. However, visa applications received by our office at the weekend, on bank holidays or after 4.30 pm on weekdays will not be processed by members of our visa team until the following working day, i.e. these visa applications will be submitted to the first consulate on the second working day following their receipt.

*Nationals of Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, France and Spain can reduce the stated fee by £55 as visa support documents are not required for an Uzbek visa.

Please note: If you wish to visit the Gorno-Badakhstan region in Tajikistan, in addition to the visa you will also require a special GBAO permit which we can obtain for you for an additional £50. This will be stamped into your passport along with your visa.

For information on individual visas and expedited processing click here.

Please note: Working days are Monday to Friday excluding any regular consulates' closures (the Kazakhstan consulate is closed every Wednesday and Tajikistan consulate is open only on Monday and Thursday), exceptional Real Russia office closures, UK bank holidays and consulates' public holidays.

When calculating the total processing time for obtaining all of your visas you will need to take into consideration the closures referred to above. One extra day is added between each visa in order to allow us to collect your passport from one consulate and submit it to another. The stated processing times assume that the documents originally received are all complete and correct. Delays may occur in cases where we require additional/alternative/amended paperwork.

It is also worth bearing in mind that the processing times given do not account for the return of your passport. Therefore, you will need to allow a few extra days if your passport is to be returned by mail; delivery times can vary considerably depending on which country your passport needs to be returned to.

Please click on the following link for any other issues which may affect the processing of your visas.

What is included in the price?

The fees quoted above cover the consular visa fees along with the discounted Real Russia service charge, and, unless otherwise stated in the ‘Visa Support Documents’ section below, all fees related to Visa Support Documentation.

Once all your visas have been issued you can either collect your passport from our London office or we can post it to you. The price and the mode of delivery depend on which country you want us to return your passport to and also how quickly you need it returning. For deliveries to UK addresses, we use Royal Mail Special Delivery. As this is an optional service this will cost an additional £8.25. For deliveries outside the UK we use either Royal Mail International Delivery/Airsure or DHL; as this is a quicker and safer option. Please contact us for a quote.

Please note: If you are applying as a group and your passports are to be sent together to the same address, only one postage fee will apply.

How long is the visa valid for?

The Azerbaijani Tourist Visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue at the consulate. You should enter and leave the country before this period expires and you may stay in the country for up to 30 days during this period.

Under normal circumstances the Turkmen transit visa needs to be applied for in advance and is valid for the exact dates that have been applied for with the validity period of a maximum of five days. This would prove inconvenient if your travel plans were to change. To solve this problem we have negotiated a special arrangement with the Turkmenistan authorities in which a transit permit will be issued and once you approach the border you will use this to obtain your visa. This way the visa will give you a full five days to transit through Turkmenistan. We're using this procedure as it is a safer, more flexible option for teams; rather than having to confirm your entry date before you leave.

The permit will specify a period within which you need to obtain your visa. These dates depend on the approximate entry and exit dates that you will confirm on your application.

Please note: We cannot apply for this permit too early as it is only valid for 90 days.

The Uzbek Tourist Visa is valid for the exact dates requested on the application form for a maximum period of up to 7, 15 or 30 days depending on the route of your journey.

The Tajik Tourist Visa is valid for the exact dates requested on the application form, for a maximum period of up to 14 or 30 days.

The Kyrgyz Tourist Visa is valid for 30 days starting from your proposed entry date.

The Russian Tourist Visa (single or double entry) is valid for the exact dates that you request on your visa application form; up to a maximum of 30 days (this applies to both single and double entry visas). We recommend that you set the start date of the visa a few days before you intend to enter Russia and make the end date 30 days later. You may enter and leave at any time between these dates.

Please note: If you need a double entry visa, you will have to complete both visits within the dates you apply for.

The Kazakhstan Tourist Visa is valid from the date requested on your visa application form for a period of 30 (single entry) or 60 (double entry) days, during which you may enter and stay for a maximum of 30 days as long as it is within the validity period of the visa. Again, we recommend that you set the start date of the visa for a few days before you intend to enter Kazakhstan and make the end date 30, or 60, days later depending on the number of entries required.

The Mongolian Tourist Visa is valid for 90 days from the date that the visa application is lodged at the consulate. Once entered you may stay in the country for up to 30 days.

When is the best time for me to apply?

While the earliest we can apply for your Mongolian and Azerbaijani visas is 90 days before your confirmed date of entry, all other visas, being date specific, can be applied for at any time, so please send us your documents as soon as you are able and we will process your Mongolian and Azerbaijani visas last.

Assuming a departure date of 5th July 2014, in order for you to receive all the visas needed in the time available, at the best possible price, the latest we need to receive applications for your Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Mongolian, Uzbekistani and Tajik visas (including your Tajik GBAO permit, if required) is the 4th April 2014.

Due to this being the peak period for processing visas, applications received after 4th April 2014 may incur a higher cost; additionally we cannot guarantee that all visas will be ready in time for the departure date.

If you also require a visa to Georgia please send all applications to us by 4th March 2014.

Do you need my passport the whole time?

In order for us to obtain all the visas on your behalf, your passport will be required for the entire processing period as the consulate will affix each visa in it.

What if I need my passport to travel while you are processing my visas?

If, at any point during the visa application process, you need your passport back for any reason, please let us know as soon as you can and we will work with you to ensure that we can still obtain all your visas on time.

What paperwork is required for these visas?

An original, signed, passport that will be valid for a minimum of six months after the date of expiry of the last visa. The passport must be undamaged and ideally have two blank pages per visa required. If you do not have the necessary spaces available, contact us and we will advise you on the best course of action.

In addition to the passport, for each visa you will also need to provide a visa application form and one recent colour passport photos taken against a plain, white background (two forms and two photos are required for a visa to Uzbekistan), and the following documents:

Turkmenistan Transit Visa:

Real Russia has made special arrangements with the Turkmenistan Consulate in London allowing a facilitated procedure when applying for your transit visa.

This means, however, that all participants transiting Turkmenistan have to decide in advance which country they will arrive from and also which border point they will cross at.

This is a crucial information as once the transit visa permit has been applied for, and this information has been passed onto the relevant Turkmenistan authorities, you will not be able to change your mind. Please take this into consideration and plan your trip accordingly.

It takes approximately 15 – 20 working days for the Turkmenistan Foreign Ministry in Ashgabat to approve and issue the transit permit with a special code. Once obtained, it will be emailed to you by Go Help. Please make sure that you print it off and keep it in a safe place as you will have to present it at the border/at the Turkmenistan Consulate in Baku, Azerbaijan depending on which way you travel.

There are two ways of applying for your transit visa using the permit:

1. At the border when travelling overland from Iran or Kazakhstan.

  • In addition to the printed copy of the transit permit, please have two (2) recent passport size photographs with you. The waiting time for your visa can be anything up to two hours. The cost will be approximately $100-$150 (US Dollars).

2. At the consulate in Baku, Azerbaijan if you are travelling to Turkmenistan by ferry.

  • Please note that the visa has to be obtained before you take the ferry to Turkmenistan. Bear in mind that the consulate is only open on Mondays and Fridays from 9.30am until 12.30pm. You will have to present the printed copy of the transit permit, two (2) recent passport size photographs and fill out a visa application form. When confirming the date of entry to Turkmenistan on the form, confirm the actual date of your border crossing with the visa officer in order to ensure it is correct. Once the paperwork has been completed, you will be required to go to the closest bank to pay the relevant visa fee, which should be around $95 (US Dollars) before returning to get your visa stamped.

Please be advised that we have been given these application procedures as guidelines only. We have had no issues regarding these procedures in the past; but if the Turkmen consulate inform us of any change to their requirements we will update this information accordingly.

Once you have decided which border point you will use to enter Turkmenistan, please send an email to following the instructions listed below:

Visa support documents and official invitations

Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan (for some nationalities only), Kyrgyzstan (for all those who require a visa) Mongolia, Russia and Uzbekistan (for some nationalities only) require official visa support documentation, which we will take care of.

The relevant fees for these, except Kazakh invitations, are already included in the prices quoted above. This is because most nationalities do not require an invitation in order to obtain visas to this country. We will contact you with the relevant information if you need one, and advise you of any additional costs or documents required. The invitation can be ordered while we are processing your other visas so, if you do require one, it should not prolong the processing time.
