City Tour: Peter & Paul, Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood

You’ll start in downtown St. Petersburg visiting the Nevsky Prospekt, the Monastery of Alexander Nevsky, Kazanskiy Cathedral, Palace Square, the Hermitage, Admiralty, Peter and Paul Fortress, Field of Mars and St. Basil Point where you can enjoy a spectacular view over the whole city, spotting the most important and beautiful landmarks.
The tour then takes you to the first construction of the city, the Peter and Paul Fortress which sits in the centre of the city. It’s an impressive architectural ensemble with a long belfry and a huge fortress.
You’ll also get to visit the Church of the Saviour on the spilt blood, which is one of the most important historic sights in St. Petersburg. It commemorates the tragic death of the Tsar, Alexander II who was mortally wounded in a terrorist bombing on 1 March 1881. The cathedral was erected in place of the assassination by architect Parland to remember the famous Tsar which is reflected in the stunning nineteenth century Russian architecture of the Church.
