Immerse yourself in the Buryat-Mongolian traditions
Your excursion begins when you tour guide meets you at the agreed destination. By private transportation, you will journey 60km on the outskirts of Ulan-Ude to one of the oldest Buryat settlements in the region, located near the breath-taking valley of the Uda River at the foot of the Ulan-Burgasi Mountains.
Your day starts off with a visit to the Atsagatsky Datsan, a Buddhist monastery renowned for being the home of some of the world’s noted lamas. After you’ve had the chance to become acquainted with the monastery and the history of Buddhism in Ulan-Ude, your adventure continues at a local museum containing traces of the region’s history, and remnants of the Buryat’s long-standing traditions.
After experiencing peace in the land of Buddhism, your transport will take you to the Arbidgil village, where you will spend some time with a local family and experience life as a native villager. Your hosts who will be dressed in traditional satin costume, will greet you at the entrance of the village and then they will welcome you by performing a traditional song and dance.
Your local hosts will lead you around the village to explore, allowing you to get a glimpse into their nomadic lifestyle. Inside the yurt you will uncover the history of the Buryat-Mongol traditions, your host will excite you with insight into their customs, and then invite you to embrace their conventions. As you wander around the local yurt you are going to see that there are two divided sections, one side for the men and the other for the women, and at the back is an alter which is considered to be a sacred place for prayer.
Before ending your excursion, your hosts will treat you to a traditional Buryat meal, and being the honoured guest, you can expect to be treated first. After you’ve enjoyed your delicious meal and heard stories of the mysterious legends of the region, your gracious hosts will encourage you to partake in yokhor dance, shaage, and a game of archery. After which you will conclude your tour and embark on the journey back to the city.
