Explore the towns of the historic Golden Ring, Vladimir, Suzdal, Yaroslavl, Rostov Veliky and Sergiev Posad

Day 1: Vladimir and Suzdal

You devote the first day of this tour to Vladimir and Suzdal, towns whose white monuments have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Vladimir was one of the medieval capitals of Russia and nowadays boasts significant buildings surviving from the 12th century. Upon arrival to Vladimir, you will be met by your English-speaking guide at the train station before you embark on a city tour to discover Vladimir’s history as an influential and prosperous town of the 13th century. Feel astonished as you see the Assumption Cathedral, Dimitriev Cathedral and the Golden Gate, all UNESCO World Heritage sites.

One hour away from Vladimir, is nestled the ancient town of Suzdal, a town that once served as the capital of Russia. After lunch, you will have a three-hour city tour and visit the medieval sites of the 13-16th centuries – the St-Euthymius monastery and the Suzdal Kremlin. You will spend the rest of the day in the Museum of Wooden architecture to get a glimpse into a classical ancient Russia.

Day 2: Yaroslavl and Rostov the Great

You will depart to Yaroslavl, a well-preserved ancient town on the bank of the river Volga whose historic centre is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While strolling along the medieval streets you will get a sense of this place’s historical significance. The Yaroslavl tour will include the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, and the Museum of Ancient Icons. After three hours of exploration, your discovery of Yaroslavl will conclude with lunch.

Following this, a departure to your next exciting destination – Rostov the Great, a town first mentioned in the 9th century. Enjoy walking along the Kremlin’s walls, and visit the Rostov Kremlin and the Assumption Cathedral.

Day 3: Sergiev Posad

The final day of this tour will be devoted to Sergiev Posad, a gem of the Golden Ring, whose Architectural Ensemble of the Trinity Sergius Lavra is a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will have time to explore the stunning Lavra, the largest Orthodox Monastery in Russia, and the cathedrals and feel the unique atmosphere and peace of the place. Lavra’s blue onion domes, with a touch of gold, that dominate the city will take your breath away and will be engraved in your memory forever.
