As one of the oldest, most historical towns in Russia, Nizhny Tagil is well worth a visit.
It’s one of the oldest mining centres, not only in the country but in the world as the former land of the Demidovs, the famous dynasty of plant and mine owners.
This city tour gives you just a glimpse into the past and present of this wonderful place including a trip to the top of Lissiya Mountain where you’ll see the whole city and surrounding landscape from a perfect viewpoint.
You’ll also see the main quarry of the Vysokogorsky mine that’s been there since 1721.
You’ll see an exhibition devoted to the Demidov family as well as the detailed history of the Regional Studies Museum, the oldest in the Urals.
Then you’ll see the Nizhne-Tagilksy Works Museum with the most incredible industrial buildings and mechanisms from the 18th -20th centuries.
Move on to the Museum of Mining Population’s Mode of Life and Trades where you’ll get an insight in to the lives of the Tagil people with household items and the best samples of folk art.
You’ll not only see the creativeness of this people but also their strength as you are guided around the Museum of Armoured Machinery, seeing all the amazing tanks and even having an opportunity to see inside one of the latest models.
You’ll also see the famous Nizhne-Tagilsky trays from Smena, with wonderful samples of lacquer painting on metal. This tour is packed full of everything you’d need to understand Russian life.
You’ll see how the old Tagil people used to live as well as the serene landscape, detailed history and unique culture of this city.
