The Premium Moscow - St Petersburg tour is the ideal way to see the highlights of Russia’s two greatest cities within a 7 day window. With two trips planned in Moscow and a further two in St Petersburg you will see all the main sights and some lesser known gems.

Moscow is a city of contrasts: It has the highest density of billionaires, is the world’s most populated inland city and boasts six out of Europe’s ten tallest buildings. Every year up to five million foreign tourists travel there to find that it is an enjoyable and friendly place and melting pot where culture, history and the future mix with the present day. From Red Square and the Kremlin to the Cold War Bunker, there is much to excite and enjoy in Moscow.

St. Petersburg is often considered to be the most culturally Western city in Russia. However, it would be wrong to assume that this denies travellers an authentic Russian experience. On the contrary, St. Petersburg is the epicentre of the nation’s art and culture and is the place that gave birth to some of those who made the country into what it is today, from Ivan Pavlov and Vladimir Nabokov to Vladimir Putin.

Day 1 - Arrival in Moscow

St. Basil's Cathedral
St. Basil's Cathedral

Upon arrival in the Russian capital, you will be greeted at your point of arrival by a private transfer and escorted to a 3* hotel in the centre of the lively Moscow.

Once you have had a chance to get settled in and store your luggage, you will have the rest of the day to explore some of the sights and sounds of this vibrant city.

The city of Moscow is the home to some of Russia’s greatest treasures, and some more hidden than others. With that in mind, why not pay a visit to the elaborately decorated Metro stations around the city. Alternatively, if you are interested in Moscow’s unique landscape, why not take a cruise along the picturesque Moskva River. Real Russia can supply both excursions, as well as many others.

Day 2 - A Walking City Tour and the Cosmonautics Museum

Red Square
Red Square

Today will be truly exhilarating as you are on your way to discover Moscow’s political, historical and cultural heart. After breakfast you will be met at your hotel by one of our knowledgeable guides, who will take you on a fascinating walking tour of central Moscow.

The immediate sense of history will be evident as you see the greatest sights that Moscow has to offer. You will begin your tour in the heart of Moscow, beginning at the legendary Red Square where you will uncover some of the greatest treasures of Russia’s past. You will then be taken to visit the iconic St Basil’s Cathedral, Lenin’s Mausoleum and the Kremlin, amongst other remarkable buildings and statues. Before moving on to Old Arbat Street. Once you are on Old Arbat Street you will time to browse the many souvenir shops, visit street artists, and savour the distinctive and unique flavours of Russian cuisine at one of the many local restaurants and cafés.

Day 3 - A Selection of Excursions in Moscow

Today you have a bit of flexibility to your itinerary, you can choose one of three fantastic excursions:

Option 1 - The Romanov Royal Family

Kolomenskoye Park Palace
Kolomenskoye Park Palace

The Romanov Family ruled Russia for over 300 years until the Russian Revolution of 1917. The story of the Romanov Dynasty, today, is still a significant part of Russian History.

From start to end, this tour recounts the riveting history of the Romanov family, unfolding as you go, the rise and fall of the once powerful family. The tour begins in the centre of Moscow, the birthplace of the Romanov dynasty, before moving to Kolomensoye, the once beloved residence of the Romanov family. The journey concludes in the convent of SS Martha and Mary where you will learn about the last of the Romanovs.

Option 2 - The Tretyakov State Gallery.

Moscow Tretyakov State Gallery
Moscow Tretyakov State Gallery

The Tretyakov Gallery boasts a collection of more than 170,000 Russian works of art, created over the last 300 – 400 years, with some pieces more than a thousand years old. The gallery has representation from all the periods of Russian and European art, including classicism, romanticism and impressionism.

While it will not be possible to view every piece of art in the gallery today, your guide will take you around the highlights, recounting the history surrounding their creation, and Russia, in the process. By the end of the tour you will come away having been thoroughly immersed in Russian art, culture and history.

Option 3 - Dinner with a Local Family

Russian Food
Russian Food

What better way to learn about Russian life than while sat round the dinner table with a local family.

While being served home cooked specialities such as borscht and pelmeni, and sipping vodka, you will have the opportunity to discuss all aspects of life, and find out all about the day to day lives of a Russian family.

Your evening will begin when your guide collects you for a 30 minute ride into Moscow’s suburbs. So, not only will you dine on tradition and authentic Russian meals, unlike what you would get elsewhere, you will also have the opportunity to see parts of Moscow that most tours will miss.

Travelling to your destination will be by local transportation and is not included in the price. You will experience more of the great Metro and the suburban trains, as well as get a more intimate feel of Moscow and its people. Alternatively, if you would prefer a private transfer, please request this upon booking. Due to the nature of this excursion, group sizes are limited to three people, and availability is limited so you must book quickly to secure your place.
