What is TravelSim?

TravelSim is an international SIM card that can save you up to 85% on international calls. It also allows you to send and receive text messages and access the internet.

Is TravelSim a Real Russia SIM card?

TravelSim is owned by one of our international partners, Top Connect Ltd. Real Russia promote the TravelSim product.

What are the benefits of TravelSim?

With TravelSim you can save up to 85% on international calls. Other benefits include:

Does TravelSim work with unlocked phones?

TravelSim works with all unlocked phones. If your handset is locked to one network, please contact your network provider.

How does TravelSim work?

TravelSim uses a call back service. When you dial a number, TravelSim disconnects your call and rings you back in a matter of seconds, connecting you and your destination seamlessly.

How do I get started?

Insert your new TravelSim card into your handset and switch it on. If you are unsure of how to do this, please see your handset manual. Once inserted, you’ll be able to start calling and texting immediately. When you make a call, TravelSim disconnects your call and calls you back from an Estonian number. You are then connected to your destination. If you want to access the internet, simply install the configuration message (CP Message) and you’ll be able to surf the internet instantly. If you are using an iPhone, you'll need to adjust the APN settings manually and you’ll be able to access the internet straight away. Please see the answer below on how do I surf the internet?

How do I unlock my phone?

TravelSim works with all unlocked phones. If your handset is locked to one network, please contact your network provider or visit their retail store and they will unlock your phone.

How do I make a phone call?

Making an international call couldn’t be easier, simply dial the country code and then dial your number, without the first zero. For example, if you wanted to call the Real Russia office in London, you would just dial +44 first, then 207 100 7370. The first two digits of +44 is the UK international code. The 020 is the London area code and 7 1007370 is the number of the destination (Real Russia's emergency line).

Please note: You would need to hold the ‘0’ button down until it becomes a ‘+’.

How do I send a text message?

You can send a message the same way you usually would.

How to I surf the internet?

The process to enable internet access will depend on the device, the phone model and the operating system you are using. Please contact your network provider if your phone and / or phone operating system isn't covered below:

iPhone users need to change a few simple settings in order to have internet access enabled:

  1. Tap ‘Settings’ on the home screen
  2. Tap 'Mobile Data'
  3. Turn on 'Mobile Data' and 'Data Roaming'
  4. Tap 'Mobile Data Network'
  5. Type 'send.ee' in the 'APN' field
  6. Leave the 'Username' and 'Password' fields blank

You will now be able to surf the internet.

Accessing the internet is easy. All you have to do is install the Configuration Message (CP Message). Please do the following when the CP Message appears:

  1. Tap ‘Install’
  2. Tap ‘Next’ when the following message appears ‘Install is not complete. Press next to continue installation’. You should now be able to surf the internet.

If installation fails, you will need to adjust a few simple settings. For Android 5 on the Samsung S5, follow these simple steps:

To change the APN settings on the Android 5 operating system for the Samsung S5, please do the following:

  1. Tap ‘Settings’
  2. Under the heading 'Network connections', please tap ‘More networks’
  3. Then tap ‘Mobile networks’
  4. Then tap ‘Access Point Names’
  5. Tap the '+' icon on the top right hand side of the screen
  6. You’ll see various options, select 'APN'. Change it to ‘send.ee’ and leave the rest of the fields empty

Please note: The process to manually change the APN settings may differ depending on your phone and the version of the Android operating system you have installed.

  1. Tap ‘Install’
  2. Tap ‘Next’ when the following message appears ‘Install is not complete. Press next to continue installation’. You should now be able to surf the internet

Please note: The process to manually change the APN settings may differ depending on your phone and the version of the Blackberry operating system you have installed.

To change the APN settings on the Blackberry, please do the following:

  1. Tap ‘Settings’
  2. Tap ‘Network Connections’
  3. Tap ‘Mobile Network’
  4. Tap ‘APN’
  5. Enter ‘send.ee’ in the ‘APN’ field
  6. Tap ‘Save’ at the bottom of the screen

Accessing the internet is easy. All you have to do is install the Configuration Message (CP Message). Please do the following when the CP Message appears:

  1. Tap ‘Install’
  2. Tap ‘Next’ when the following message appears ‘Install is not complete. Press next to continue installation’. You should now be able to surf the internet

Please note: The process to manually change the APN settings may differ depending on your phone and the version of the Windows OS you have installed.

To change the APN settings on Windows OS operated phones, please do the following:

  • Swipe left to view the Apps list
  • Tap ‘Settings’
  • Tap ‘mobile network’
  • Ensure Data connection is set to on
  • Tap the ‘add Internet apn’ button
  • Enter ‘send.ee’ in the ‘APN’ field
  • Tap the Save button

How do I turn data roaming off?

It will depend on the device, the phone model and the operating system you are using. Please contact your network provider if your phone and / or phone operating system isn't covered below.

For iPhone 5s (iOS 9.0.2), follow these simple steps:

  1. Tap 'Settings'
  2. Tap 'Mobile Data'
  3. Turn 'Data Roaming' off

For Android (Kitkat 4.4.2) on the LG G2, follow these simple steps:

  1. Tap 'Settings'
  2. Tap 'Tethering & networks'
  3. Tap 'Mobile Networks'
  4. Tap 'Data roaming'
  5. Tap the 'Off' option

For BlackBerry Q10, follow these simple steps:

  1. Tap 'Settings'
  2. Tap 'Network Connections'
  3. Tap 'Mobile Network'
  4. Tap 'Data Services while Roaming'
  5. Tap 'Off'

For Windows Phone 8, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to the 'Apps' List
  2. Tap 'Settings'
  3. Tap 'Mobile Network'
  4. Tap 'Data roaming' options
  5. Choose 'Don’t roam'

How do I find my number?

Don’t know your TravelSim number? No problem, simply dial *099# and your number will instantly be displayed on your screen. Alternatively, if you have your TravelSim plastic holder handy, take a look on the top left hand corner, your TravelSim number will begin with +372.

Where do I top up?

Never run out of credit while you are travelling. Simply top up your phone with airtime on our website. With our easy two-click top up process, you can add credit to your account balance with ease. The great thing is your phone instantly tops up after payment. Alternatively, you can top up at our London office.

How much can I top up by?

You can credit your account balance of up to €100.

Please note: Topping up is in €5 increments.

Can I top up elsewhere?

You can only top up on our website and the Real Russia London office.

How much does it cost to call internationally?

Prices vary depending on the traveller's location. Please click here to see how much it would cost you.

How much would it cost to call from Russia?

It would cost you €0.39 per minute. However, you may be charged an extra amount if you call selected countries. These are mainly in Africa. To see a list of these countries, please click here.

How much would it cost to call from the Trans-Siberian or the Trans-Mongolian?

It would depend on where you are. If you are in Mongolia, it would cost €0.45 per minute. If you are in China it would cost you €0.50 per minute and if you are in Russia, it would cost you €0.39 per minute. Please see our TravelSim page for more prices.

Which countries charge the additional rate?

How much does it cost to access voicemail?

Customers get a discounted rate of €0.19 per minute to access voicemail in over 145 countries. For countries that don’t qualify for the discounted rates, the customer would be charged the outgoing call rate in that country per minute. Please click here for a list of voicemail costs.

Please note: There is a €0.06 connection charge when you dial voicemail.

Will I be charged for Call Waiting?

If this feature is activated, you will be charged for both calls, the call on hold and the call that is active. Prices will vary depending on where you are. Please click here to view incoming and outgoing TravelSim rates.

Please note: Call Waiting can be enabled or disabled in the menu of your handset. Please refer to your phone manual or contact your network provider if you are unsure on how to do this.

How does the call back service work?

TravelSim uses a call back service. This feature means you save up to 85% on international calls. When you dial a number, TravelSim disconnects your call and rings you back in a matter of seconds, connecting you and your destination seamlessly.

How much does it cost me to ring another TravelSim user?

It will cost €0.19 per minute with a €0.06 connection charge when you call another TravelSim user in over 145 countries. Click here for TravelSim to TravelSim rates. For countries that don’t qualify for TravelSim to TravelSim rates, the customer would be charged the outgoing call rate in that country per minute.

How long does my credit last?

It lasts until your credit has been depleted. If you still have remaining airtime, it won’t expire.

I’m not from the UK, can I buy a TravelSim card?

Yes you can buy TravelSim from Real Russia, but please be aware that currently we not deliver to addresses from outside of the United Kingdom. We do however, offer the following options:

  • Return TravelSim with passport.
  • Return TravelSim with train tickets.
  • Collect from the Real Russia London office.
  • Collect from the Real Russia Moscow office.

Will TravelSim work with my handset?

TravelSim comes in three sizes to fit all phone types. Assuming your phone is unlocked, TravelSim will work on your mobile phone.

I received an error message saying 'Restricted SIM' what does this mean?

It means that your handset is locked to one network. Please contact your network provider to unlock your phone.

Do I have to type in an international code every time I dial a number?

Every time you make a call, even if it is in the same country, you would have to dial the international code. You would simply dial the international code of the country you want to call, followed by the area code, followed by the number of the destination. For example, if you wanted to call Real Russia's emergency number, you would dial +44 (0) 207 100 7370. The first two digits of +44 is the UK international code, the 020 is the London the area code and 7 1007370 is the number of the destination (Real Russia's emergency line).

How do I check my TravelSim balance?

Dial 099 or *146*099# and press call. Your balance will be displayed on the screen. It will also be shown every time you make a call.

If I want to call a friend who is using TravelSim, do I have to dial anything extra?

You would simply dial their TravelSim number and tap 'call'. Nothing extra would need to be dialled.

What is Real Russia’s helpline number?

+44 0207 100 49 82.

How do I activate free Skype calls?

Simply dial *146*711# on your phone.

How do I call a TravelSim user for free on Skype?

The Skype user would simply dial the international code first followed by 800 and then the rest of the number. For example, to call +37253204388 for free from Skype, the user would dial +37280053204388.

Family and friends can call the TravelSim user for free on Skype. The TravelSim user would only be charged €0.15 per minute in over 150 countries. For other countries it would cost €0.15 plus the charge of the incoming call.

Will the Skype call also come out from data usage?

No you won’t as it will be like receiving an incoming call.

My TravelSim is locked and it asks me for a pin code

Please do the following:

  1. Ensure your mobile phone is unlocked to all networks.
  2. If your mobile phone is unlocked to all networks, then enter 0000 when it asks you for a pin code.
  3. Turn on 'Mobile data' and 'Roaming Data' on and then restart your phone.
  4. If it is still not working, try using TravelSim on another mobile device.

I cannot connect to major networks, please help!

Ensure 'Mobile data' and 'Roaming Data' is turned on and restart the phone. Also, please check the apn settings and change it to 'send.ee’.

TravelSim doesn’t connect automatically to major networks

You would need to connect manually to the MTS network and restart your phone.

TravelSim doesn’t work at all

Try TravelSim on another phone, if this doesn’t work, your TravelSim needs replacing.
