I have done a bank transfer from my UK account to my wife's Sberbank account. £30 per transaction springs to mind by the way.
We help out my M-I-L the same way. But what I would like to know, and I'm touting for advise here, is, if my M-I-L was in the UK, how could she get here pension from Sberbank were it is paid?
Is there a cash card associated with this account that allows money to drawn abroad?
I found Moneygram to be the most effective way of transfering money and costs about the same as the SWIFT transfer for the amounts I send(normally a couple of hundred pounds a time). |

Location: In the Windmills of my mind... | To my knowledge, Sperbank cash cards are Visa Electron cards and can be used at any visa electron ATM's world wide...... Normally by using the ATM, you get the best rate of exchange..... My Sperbank cards work in the UK no problem.... HTH |

You may find it cheaper and more convenient to give MiL a pre-paid visa card, which you can top up as required from the comfort of your own home, or even a second card from one of your UK accounts.... HTH.. Mel the "Cash Passport" is exactly that a prepaid visa card that can be topped up from the comfort of your own home.

I assumed there would be a card solution. Problem is, will it be possible to get my M-I-L to cope with a card. It's a minority sport in her village, and in the over 80s! |

There few catches in using Sberbank cards abroad. First these cards: Sberbank-Maestro”Social”, Sberbank-Maestro”Students”, Sberbank-Maestro”Momentum” can not be used abroad. Second Sberbank Visa Electron charges you 5 USD minimum for every operation abroad. To get your M-I-L Visa Classic will cost more - 25 USD per year compare to Visa Electron only 10 USD, but it charges less for using it abroad. In the long term you can think about different card to have for M-I-L with Sberbank, what will be better if she intend to live in the U.K. and withdraw her pension from cash machines frequently. |

Location: Marinskaya + Newcastle upon Tyne | Many thanks for that Sokol. I hope someone else finds it useful.
However, after going through to the entire visa application process prior to entering the booked, paid appointment at Rostov VAC, we now realise that my M-I-L will never be travelling to the UK. |

Oh, I'm right-down sorry for her. So, it is final and can not be resolved?

Location: Marinskaya + Newcastle upon Tyne | She is just 'too old' in various respects.
It would have been unkind to bring her to the UK, even if 'they' granted her a visa, and if she still wanted to, which she doesn't.
We have set up neighbour/relative support locally, checked daily.
So, that's nice. |

Location: Cheshire | I see. I suppose in this case will be better to give card to neighbour or relative that he/she can draw money on your M-I-L behalf. It is also possible to transfer money from the U.K. into Russian Sberbank rouble account via money transfer companies. |
