| So, at the 2.5 threshold. My then wife will need B1 in English and the life in the uk test.
I've read through all the guidance but I'm still unclear on some things. are there any other requirement at the 2.5 years stage? Such as again providing 6 months worth of bank account statement?
And if in this time we have a child of our own, will the financail requirement increase. Or will this be ok and the child is a british citizen?

It looks that way... proving the desire to integrate.
I think the 2.5yr stage will be like a FFLR with all the docs, then again at the ILR application.
No, such a child would be a British Citizen and therefore not contribute to a higher earning requirement. Assuming conceived and born in the UK?
at least - thats the way that I've read it. |

| Thanks. I see you location is Pyatigorsk. My girlfriend lives in Nalchik, so very close. I've not been to the Caucasus as Nalchik wouldn't really be safe for me. We're metting in Sochi in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to that.

Sorry I haven't been around..... for long time, but I was busy sorting out a few little details, regarding Hanna's forth coming application for Naturalisation etc. Hanna passed the Life in the UK test with flying colours..... so little time to wait before the application and spending more money!
I see now British citizens choosing to marry a 3rd world citizen, they .... may.... have to leave the country, if they don't earn enough and join the woman that they love to have a family life.
I thought we have a democracy here but Teresa has different ideas ...... any how it's a diversion tactic (Did you read what Osborn said about the economy and his failure ?), affecting a small number of people and not the many 1000's she says, probably no more than 6-8 1000's in this category of ours.
Good luck to all of you in the middle of it!
Tony: If you read this..... Nobble is the American company that got the contract for Gas and oil..... exploration and have already hit a good supply! Waiting for another 2 to be announced soon, just after the elections.

As Deacon Street indicates, visiting Nalchik and 'getting under the skin' of the North Caucasus will be absolutely fascinating, and no more dangerous than most of our town and city centres on a Friday night. You won't be the target.
FYI, my wife's family's village is off-road about half way between Pyatigorsk and Nalchik, and it is quite peaceful, despite it's ethnic mix.
Take a coach trip to Mount Elbrus, and cable cars to 12000ft. You will never forget that. |

| I'd like to visit the Caucasus. I really would. I've seen many pictures and it looks beautiful. However, in the year I have known my girlfriend, 11 people she knows have been killed by terrorism, including a young child from the schoolclass she teaches. Many of these were just caught in crossfire, not themselves involved in the conflict. Armed terrorists have entered her house, quizzing her about her religion, whislt we were talking on Skype. She has had to drag a terrorists dead body out of the street as well. And a very close friend was shot in the arm. She's has had several kidnap attempts on her as well buy someone trying to use the old Roma gypsy marraige law. All this in just one year.
And the things that she has seen throughout her life my me recoil in horror. I know theoretically I could be killed in a bar fight in Blackpool on a Friday night. But in my 34 years i've hardly even witnessed any trouble. What she has witness in just the last year I couldn't imagine experiencing in a lifetime.
I'm really concerned about the thought of travelling there. As I say, i'd love to see the region for it's beauty but don't know if I could ever pick up to courage to visit. |

Location: Marinskaya + Newcastle upon Tyne | DaveJH, you're response has brought me up short, for which I thank you. It has made me realise that although the Pyatigorsk bus bombings may be of the past, as was the shooting up of my wife's former home from across the river, I should be more wary of the present situation.
Her home was literally a stone's throw from Kabardino-Balkaria, which, of course, has Nalchik as its capital.
Good luck on your visit to Sochi. No rain, I think. |

| Yes, it's been 33c in Sochi this week. I intend to be the Stereotypical English person, complaining that it is too hot, after complaining that we never get a summer in England. |

I went to Sochi at the end of June/beginning of July last year for a week last and got half a week of rain, if your in Sochi itself the Botanics Gardens were nice, we found a nice Irish Bar where English was spoken complete with a Celtic band but watch out for the traffic jams. I will try to dig out the names of a few places we went to.
Only minor issues we had was with a Waitress who told us at dinner they was no English menus, sadly for her after having lunch there we had only returned as we knew it had English menus so she was quickly sent on her way and be prepared to re-check at Moscow when flying home due to Custom regulations with through luggage/ticketing, I was caught out by this with a tightish connection at Moscow but got checked in with about 10 seconds to spare. |

| Hi Muffy. Yeah, any info on Sochi would be useful. Botanic Garden's sounds good. I've seen a tour which heads into the hills to see some waterfalls as well.
I'm not sure exactly where i'm staying. Iveria's taken care of that. It's self catering accomodation so we'll mainly just be eating in. We're trying to do this as cheap as possible because of upcoming wedding costs. But i'll still be looking towards a couple of nights out.
I'm flying in via Istanbul. |
