Train 3, from Ulaanbaatar to Ulan-Ude, Irkutsk or Moscow
These tickets can only be confirmed, issued and dispatched one day prior to travel, so please ensure you have a delivery address in Ulaanbaatar – most hotels and hostels are happy to act as a delivery address.
Trains to Kaliningrad
These trains cannot be booked online. You must buy these tickets locally due to extra paperwork that must be completed. They are not available more than 10 days before the date of departure.
Also worth remembering, is that Kaliningrad is a Russian exclave, separated from Russia by Belarus, Lithuania and Latvia. Because of this, you may need to apply for alternative, or additional, visas.
Trains 801, 802, 803 and 804, between St Petersburg and Veliky Novgorod
These trains cannot be booked online, only locally, no more than ten days before the date of departure.
On the Trans-Manchurian you are able to get a feel for China by travelling through the Manchuria region of the country as part of your journey between Moscow and Beijing.
Please be aware: Tickets for Train No 3 departing Ulaanbaatar, to Ulan-Ude, Irkutsk, or Moscow for example, can only be confirmed and issued one day prior to travel. This means you’ll need to make sure you have a delivery address in Mongolia, often hotels and hostels will be happy to act as a delivery address. You may also have issues with booking this train during late Summer and early Autumn from both Ulaanbaatar and Beijing, we recommend departure on Beijing on train 24 and from Ulaanbaatar on trains 305 and 005.

While Russian, Mongolian and Chinese railways don’t allow booking of tickets more than a few weeks before the departure date, Real Russia can take your details at any time so we can book your train tickets as soon as they go on sale.

If you want to book a date outside of the booking window, Real Russia will save your booking enquiry on our system so on the first day of sale we can immediately order the tickets for your journey. We require payment before processing your booking and one of our travel specialists will be in touch to confirm your booking details before an order is made.
By taking train ticket reservations as early as we do it allows us to maximise the chance of your booking being successful, even with more popular bookings like First Class carriages and the Moscow-Vladivostok Rossiya. We are able to start the booking process as soon as the tickets go on sale which gives us an advantage over other agencies who may wait until the tickets are on sale before taking your details. It is very important that we can order your train tickets as soon as possible as there is huge demand for them; particularly for First Class tickets or any tickets bought during the summer months.

It is possible to cancel your train ticket, however, the amount that will be available for refund will depend on how close to the departure date you cancel with the further in advance you cancel your tickets the more you can be refunded. However, refund rules will vary depending on the country of travel but they generally work on a similar sliding scale principle.
There will be a standard administration charge of £10 (or USD/EUR equivalent), plus any fees levied by the rail ticket issuer on any cancelled tickets.
If you have purchased a paper ticket and have already received it, we will need the physical paper ticket to issue your refund. This will need to be posted to our Moscow office, at your own charge because we cannot cancel the ticket without the physical copy, we will calculate the refund date as the day we receive the ticket, not when the ticket is posted.
All returned tickets need to be sent back to us by express delivery (DHL, FedEx, UPS) to ensure that we receive your tickets before the train departs.

If you have paper tickets and you are already travelling, it may be difficult to post tickets; in this case, you’ll need to go to the ticket counter to the nearest station and cancel them there. You will receive a cancellation receipt not a refund as the booking was made through Real Russia. You can then send the cancellation receipt and unused tickets to our Moscow office where we can process the refund, minus the £10 (or USD/EUR equivalent) administration charges and any fees levied by the rail ticket issuer.
Cancellations must be made before the departure date and cannot be made if you miss your train. You have up to four months from the date of cancellation to send us your cancellation receipt and unused ticket.
If you’ve booked E-tickets, and haven’t printed out your tickets yet, or have E-registration tickets we can cancel the tickets as soon as you notify us unless the train has departed from its original station. In this instance, the E-ticket should be printed out at the station and cancelled through a claim procedure yourself.
Please note, if you contact us outside of our Moscow office working hours they will be dealt with the next day.

First class tickets are limited and very popular so tend to sell quickly. If you would like space and privacy but are unable to purchase a First Class ticket, you can book the upper and lower berth in a cabin for more space. If you are travelling as a two this means you can book the sole use of a cabin.
To do this simple chose an upper and lower berth in the rail ticket booking panel and add a note in the comments section informing our travel specialists of your intention.

Contact our travel experts for advice. As a rule, you will be allowed to board the train with one mistake on your ticket. Missing a letter in your name, or a misspelling of a letter in your name, would each count as one mistake. Beyond one mistake a new ticket would need to be issued.
Issuing a new train ticket would involve cancelling the current ticket at the standard cancellation fee (£10 + any fee levied by the ticket issuer) and purchasing a new ticket at the current price; which may be more expensive than the price paid originally.
For this reason, we recommend checking all details on any tickets you book immediately upon receipt of them; particularly if you have booked any tickets under the ‘Plan Ahead’ offer as you may be forced to buy your new ticket for up to twice what you originally paid for it.
There is no currently rail pass program available in Russia or for Trans-Siberian travel, you’ll need to buy individual tickets.
