Trans-Russian, Mongolian and Manchurian

Lennins Head

If you are travelling overland from Europe or Moscow to Beijing, or vice-versa, then you will almost certainly need to obtain visas for the countries that you pass through or want to visit.

This can be a complex, time consuming and expensive process, however Real Russia can help and take the pain out of the experience.

We prepare, lodge and manage each application with each consulate "back to back" and on collection check each visa is correct and finally return your passport with all the visas present and correct when the last one is complete.

We have done this for thousands of travellers before, this is not an experiment, so you can relax and plan your journey!

Which visas will I need and how much will it cost?

The cost will depend on which visas you need, how quickly you need them, which nationality you are and if a group discount (4 or more travellers) can be applied.

The prices and timescales below are quoted for individual UK nationals using standard processing services and include all costs necessary to obtain your visas including consular fees and providing invitations, though please feel free to contact us for information and the process for other nationals or if you have different requirements.

The Trans-Manchurian railway runs from Moscow in European Russian, through the Ural mountains, across the Siberian plain, around lake Baikal in Siberia and separates from the Trans-Siberian route at Chita and travels on to Beijing in China over 7,800 kilometres (4,900 miles) away.

As such you will need a Russian and Chinese visa as a minimum.

For the full service, the prices start from £205.40 per person where you are providing your own Russian invitation; however, if you are also obtaining your rail tickets with us then a further £10.00 discount per person on the standard service visa is available.

If you are entering Russia from Europe via Belarus then you will also need a Belarus visa which will add a minimum £77.00 to the price above.

If you are entering Europe from Russia via Belarus then our Moscow office can also assist with processing of Belarus visas as well as Chinese visas for travellers who don't have time or it is not practical to obtain them before they arrive in Russia.

The Trans-Mongolian railway runs from Moscow in European Russia following the Trans-Siberian route through to Ulan-Ude deep in Siberia where it separates and continues on through Mongolia in Central Asia and on to Beijing in China over 7,800 kilometres (4,900 miles) away.

As such you will need a Russian, Mongolian and Chinese visa as a minimum.

For the full service, the prices start from £294.40 per person where you are providing your own Russian invitation or where you are booking travel services with us; however, if you are also obtaining your rail tickets with us then a further £10.00 discount per person on the standard service Russian visa is available.

The Trans-Siberian railway runs from Moscow in European Russian through to the Russian Pacific port of Vladivostok in Asia over 9,200 kilometres (5,800 miles) away. The price you see is the price you pay!

How long does it take to process the visas?

We can only start to process the visa applications at the consulates once we have received your applications and passport.

Typically we will lodge your first application at the first consulate the working day after we receive it and the processing time for each visa is then expressed in working days, which exclude UK or consular specific holidays:

To work out how long it will take, simply add the days required to process each visa together and if required allow at least 1 working day for postage each way.

So, if you require visas for travel on the Trans-Mongolian then the time taken to process the Russian, Mongolian and Chinese visas would be 18 working days, or just over three weeks, excluding any postage time.

You can process the visas faster than standard service if required by paying additional consular fees; details on the faster options for each consulate and the visas they provide can be found on the specific page for the visa, or please contact us with details of your requirements and we will be happy to help.

When can I apply for my visas?

Generally, and assuming you have the time, we would advise that people apply for their visas where possible using the following schedule:

  • Trans-Mongolian Travellers: 5 to 6 weeks before you depart
  • Trans-Manchurian Travellers: 4 to 5 weeks before you depart
  • Trans-Russian Travellers: not later than 3 weeks before to avoid higher consular fees

It is important for you to be aware that:

Russian Tourist visas can be applied for as far in advance as required.

The single entry Chinese visas give you 90 days to enter China (from the date the consulate issue the visa); having entered, you can then stay up to 30 days. The double entry visas give a period of 180 days from the date the consulate issue the visa during which time you may enter the country twice; as long as your second entry is before the “enter before” date on the visa, you can then stay in China for up to 30 days on that visit.

Today the Chinese consulates are issuing single entry visas that are valid for entry before: [[DateTime.Now.AddDays(90)]]. and double entry visas that are valid for entry before: Six month multiple entry visas issued today will be valid for entry until [[DateTime.Now.AddDays(180)]] and twelve month multiple entry visas until [[DateTime.Now.AddDays(360)]] .

Do I need to send you my passport each time for each visa to be processed?

No, this is not necessary, you can send us all your applications for all visas together and we will process each one "back to back" and return the passport to you after the final one is complete.

However, if due to travel plans or other requirements you need your passport during the processing period, then we can process only some of your visas and return the passport to you for your use, and you can then return it to us to complete the visa processing when it is convenient for you.

I am traveling with a friend(s), can we send our applications together?

Yes, this is not a problem and we can return all the passports back to a single address or individual addresses as you request.

How do I order?
