On our new Russian Revolution tour, appreciate Russia’s greatest cities a century on – the gilded backdrop for the revolutionary events, St Petersburg, the symbol of the monarchy’s end, Yekaterinburg and the grand new Bolshevik capital, Moscow. Tour highlights include a visit inside the Smolny Institute and the Cruiser Aurora, both of which played a pivotal role in the October Revolution, as well as an excursion to the Romanovs’ memorial in Yekaterinburg and the gloriously ornate halls of Moscow’s Metro stations.

You will get the opportunity to explore the Smolny, the headquarters of the first Soviet government in 1917 and the Assembly Hall where the Revolution was celebrated in 1917. You will also see the classical highlights of St Petersburg, including the Palace Square of the fabulous Winter Palace, the Church of our Saviour on Spilled Blood, magnificent St Isaac’s Cathedral and the Peter and Paul Fortress. Additional tour highlights include an excursion inside the Cruiser Aurora that played a pivotal role in the October Revolution.

The rest of the day is free time for you to do as you please in St Petersburg.

Day 3 - Guided tour of Kronshtadt

Today you will explore the town of Kronshtadt, situated 50 km away from St Petersburg. Founded by Peter the Great in 1704 as a naval base, it is also renowned as a city of revolutionary history. At the time of the Russian Revolution, Kronshtadt garrison became the main support of the Bolsheviks. To a certain extent, we can even say the Revolution was made by Bolshevik hands.

Naval Cathedral in Kronshtadt

Once there, you will embark on a private walking tour of the city, including a visit to the Naval Cathedral and its forts. While in Kronshtadt, you will be taken to see military memorials in Anchor Square and the 20th century Byzantine cathedral, renowned for its elaborately decorated interior.
