What is Museum Night?
The European Night of Museums, hosted by UNESCO, is an annual event where cities across Europe will open their doors to visitors throughout the night with exciting special events including lectures, concerts and performances. More than 33 European countries will leave their doors open to let people experience this cultural event. This year the event will start on May 19th.
How does St Petersburg celebrate Museum Night?
St. Petersburg, Russia's culture capital, is home to many iconic museums that regularly participate. The event is designed to encourage people to visit museum, galleries and heritage sites by showing them the very best they have to offer.
There are many fascinating opportunities that can only be experienced on Museum Night, including master classes and special lectures. One of the most popular attractions is the Hermitage Museum's secret room which will be opened for one night only.
The range of programs will stretch across the night, so night owls and early birds alike will find plenty to enjoy. Programs will run from 6pm May 19th until 6am May 20th. The metro will be running around the clock so you'll be able to easily make your way around the city and visit as much as you like.
