Russian railway regulation – No smoking!

Travel update from us to bring you the latest information on rules and regulations on Russian railways.

As of Sunday 1st June 2014, in Russia, there will be a new ban on smoking on long-distance trains and suburban platforms –

The ban will mean that there will be no permitted smoking inside long-distance trains, within 15 meters of the entrance to a railway station, or whilst waiting for a train on a suburban platform, in Russia. All non-smoking areas will be indicated with new non-smoking signs, to avoid confusion with this latest regulation.

This ban is an extension of the smoking ban to some public areas, which first came into effect in June 2013 and is part of Russia’s anti-smoking legislation to promote healthier lifestyles for people.

We will continue to bring you the latest in railway rules and will update all information on our train info page, though if you have any questions about how this may affect your travel or would like to make any other travel arrangements, feel free to contact one of our travel team who will be happy to assist.
