“Forbidden City, Beijing”
Here’s the ideal way to see all the most famous, most important parts of Beijing including Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace.
Built in 1415, Tiananmen Square is one of the most well-known sights of China, recognised for massive parades and rallies and the site where Chairman Mao announced the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. The square is named after the wall which separates the Square from The Forbidden City.
Next on your visit is inside The Forbidden City itself. An imperial palace from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it served as a home for the Emperor and his household for almost five centuries as well as holding ceremonial and political events. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987 and is an amazing representation of the beautiful culture of China and the wonderful architecture and palaces they can build.
The Temple of Heaven is a beautifully ancient site built in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty as a place to offer sacrifices to Heaven. Another World Heritage Site, it has been described as a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design and is steeped in religious and cultural history as a place where many Emperors have visited, praying for good harvests and performing ceremonies. Last stop of your trip is the Summer Palace which is noted as one of the most beautiful and classic gardens of the world. Constructed during the Jin Dynasty in the 12th Century, it remains one of the most exquisite sights around Beijing with vast lakes, gardens and palaces covering almost 3km. Added to the World Heritage List in 1998 alongside the other sights on your trip, it was declared a masterpieces of Chinese landscape garden design, forming a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value.
