Discover the secrets of UNESCO Island town of Sviyazhsk

Your excursion begins when your guide escorts you 30km from Kazan, to the ancient island that was a fortress and a military base for the Russian troops, headed by Ivan the Terrible during the Kazan Khanate War in 16th century.

Before proceeding to admire the unique ancient ornate of the local landmarks, your tour guide will recount the history of the Island, a history imbued with undiscovered secrets waiting for you to unravel it. While exploring the island, you will come across historical monuments and artefacts telling the story of life over 1000 years ago.

You will have the opportunity to explore this ancient town and learn more about the island’s history, then you can visit the merchant houses to see artefacts and remnants of ancient Kazan. On route, continue on to explore the island’s ancient monasteries and cathedrals, including the Cathedral of the Holy Virgin and the Assumption Monastery, added to UNESCO World Heritage List in 2017.

After your tour concludes, your guide will accompany you back to your hotel. This historical island with an intriguing history is a truly cultural gem of the Republic Tatarstan that will be a highlight of your visit to Tatarstan
