Itinerary

Krasnoyarsk

Situated on the Yensei River, Krasnoyarsk is the third largest city in Siberia and an important junction on the Trans-Siberian Railway. The city has been hailed by Anton Chekov among others, as one of the most beautiful cities in Siberia and even the entirety of Russia. It is best known for the Stolby Nature Sanctuary, an idyllic national park set within rolling hills and rocky outcrops, found just 10km south of the city.

Day 1

Arrival in Krasnoyarsk

Welcome to Krasnoyarsk! After arriving in the city our driver will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel for check-in.

Day 2

Krasnoyarsk City Tour

Your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby to begin your all-day city tour of Krasnoyarsk, where you will visit the Ethnographic Museum, known to be one of the best in Siberia.

Abakan

Abakan is the capital city of the Republic of Khakassia, Russia, founded in the 17th century at the confluence of the Yenisei and Abakan Rivers. The city is home to several important landmarks including the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, “Good Angel of Peace” sculpture, the Park of Topiary Art, and the Khakas National History Museum. Abakan marks an important junction and terminal station on the Abakan-Tayshet Railway.

Day 3

Bus Trip to Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Power Station

Enjoy an early breakfast before checking out of your hotel. You will then embark on a tourist bus tour following the road along the Yenisei River. During your trip you will have several stops where you can take photos including Tsar-Fish observation platform and Krasnoyarsk Dam.

Shushenskoye Village

A popular village situated at the confluence of the Yenisei and Big Shush rivers, Shushenskoye is best known as the site of Vladimir Lenin’s exile between 1897 and 1900. In 1970 a museum dedicated to Lenin’s time in Shushenskoye was opened and remains a popular destination for tourists along with its beautiful nature reserves. It has since become the site of the Music and Crafts of Siberia festival which takes place every July.

Day 4

Crossing the Western Sayan Mountains

Today you will journey towards Tuva across the West Sayan Mountains. After having breakfast and checking out of your hotel you will get back on the bus before stopping at the Ethnographical Museum in Shushenskoye. Here, you will discover what a real Siberian village would have looked like in the 19th century and learn more about the region’s local history.

Kyzyl

Kyzyl is the capital city of the Tuva Republic, Russia, situated at the point where the Yenisei River meets the Maly Yenisey River. Its name derives from the Tuvan language as ‘crimson’ and it is claimed to mark the exact geographical centre of Asia. Kyzyl has a unique cultural heritage and many important landmarks including the Kyzyl National Theater and Prayer Wheel, and the Khoomei Centre, dedicated to studying and teaching khoomei, Tuvan throat singing.

Day 5

City Tour of Kyzyl

After spending an evening in your very own yurt, you will wake up for an early breakfast before having a morning meeting with your guide. Your tour will continue on to Kyzyl where you will explore some of the city’s most important sites, including a visit to the Geographical center of Asia, the Drum of Wishes and a local Buddhist temple before taking a stroll across the Yenisei Quay. Just before lunch you will have a bit of free time to explore the city before visiting the National Museum of Tuva, where you will discover treasures found in the legendary burial mound, Arzhaan-2.

Tuva

Situated in the centre of Asia and Southern Siberia, Tuva (also known as the Tuvan Republic) is a region with a rich culture and history stretching back to the 200BC. It has been a contested area of Russia, Mongolia and China over centuries and became independent as the Uryankhay Republic before being brought under Russian protectorate as Uryankhay Krai under Tsar Nicholas II. Its capital is the city of Kyzyl.

Day 6

Sightseeing at Ustuu-Khuree Temple

Enjoy an early morning breakfast at your yurt camp before meeting your guide for a morning briefing. You will then head back out on the bus towards the Snow Leopard Taiga camp where you will spend the evening. On the way, you will have several stops including panoramic views of the Khairykan Mountain, a picnic lunch and a trip to the ruined temple of Ustuu-Khuree, a centre of Buddhist culture.

Khakassia

Situated Southwest of Siberia, the Khakassia region stretches almost 300 miles across the eastern slopes of Kuznetsk Alatau and the Abakan Range. The region is best known for its natural beauty and is home to over 300 lakes, the natural landmark, Minusinsk Hollow, and the Yenisei River. The area formed the core of the old 6th century Yenisei Kirghiz state, and was later incorporated into the Russian state under Peter the Great. In 1992 it became the Republic of Khakassia.

Day 7

Day in Taiga

Breakfast will be supplied at the camp before you head out on a day trip to Taiga. You will get the chance to go foraging for fruits, mushrooms and the delicious cedar nuts that grow on the local pines as well as visit the Bridge of Love.

Day 8

Experience life in a Khakassian Village

After having breakfast and checking out of camp, you will head back out on the road to Kazanovka. On the way, you will stop off at an authentic Khakassian village before arriving at Kyug Yurt Camp in the Kazanovka National Reserve where you will stop for lunch and check-in for the evening.

Day 9

City Tour of Abakan

After a refreshing sleep surrounded by nature, you will head to Khakassian Aal Ethnographic Village where you will learn more about the Khakassian people and culture of the region. After a spot of lunch, you will check-out of the campsite and set off on the 180km journey to Abakan.

Day 10

Bus Trip to the Great Salbyk Burial Mound

The final day of your Sayan Ring experience. You will start the day with an early breakfast before checking out of your hotel and meeting your guide in the hotel lobby. Your driver will arrive around 10:00am to begin you final day of sightseeing where you see Russia’s own ‘Valley of the Kings and the Great Salbyk Burial Mound. Enjoy an open-air picnic for lunch before taking the scenic route back to Krasnoyarsk.

Day 11

Departure from Krasnoyarsk

Enjoy a final early-morning buffet breakfast in the hotel before checking out. Your driver will pick you up with plenty of time, working with your scheduled flights or train times and take you to your departure destination.
