The most Northern city in the Russian Federation, Murmansk has a long history as a naval port strategically located on the Kola Peninsula. Murmansk is primarily an industrial city, however growing interest in major tourist attractions such as the Northern Lights and better transport links between St Petersburg as well as to Norway and Finland are making the city an up-and-coming tourist destination.

Day 1

Arrival in Murmansk

Welcome to Murmansk, your driver will meet you at your scheduled arrival point (airport or railway station) before taking you to your hotel for standard check in. You will have time to get a bit of lunch at your hotel before meeting your guide. Your tour will start with a tour of the city where you will get to see what Murmansk has to offer, including a visit to see the world’s very first nuclear icebreaker, Lenin.

Saami Village

Dotted around the tundra landscapes of Northern Russia and Scandanavia, the villages of the Saami people represent a unique cultural heritage steeped in traditions and customs that can be traced back generations. Traditionally, the Saami lifestyle includes coastal fishing, fur trapping, and sheep herding, although they are best known for reindeer herding.

Day 2

Visit a Traditional Saami Settlement

Wake up to an early morning breakfast, before checking out and meeting your driver in the hotel lobby and heading out to a local Saami settlement. Here, you will get to learn more about the lives of the Saami people through traditional games, reindeer herding, sled rides before enjoying a traditional Saami fish soup. You will even get the chance to try on your own Saami clothes, take photos alongside the reindeers or buy a hand-crafted souvenir to remember your trip by.

An industrial town located on the remote Kola Peninsula in Murmansk Oblast, Russia. Monchegorsk was originally established in the 1930s with the name ‘Monchetundra Massif’ and was an important copper and nickel mining settlement. It was renamed Monchegorsk by the All-Russian Central Executive Committee in 1935. The name of the town derives from the Akkala Sámi word ‘monce’, which translates to ‘beautiful’.

Day 3

Enjoy a Snowmobile Safari in a Snow Village

After an early breakfast and check out, your driver will meet you outside the hotel at 8:00am before taking you on a fantastic excursion to the awe-inspiring snow village or the fascinating Mineralogical and Mining Museum in Kirovsk (dependent on the weather and the time of year).

Day 4

Explore the Coast of the Barents Sea

After breakfast your driver will meet you at the hotel before setting off on an expedition through the mountain plateaus to the Teriberka Village on the secluded Barent’s Sea coastline. You will stop for lunch in a local restaurant before exploring the village and seeing the backdrop for Alexei Zvyagintsev’s famous 2015 film ‘Leviathan’.

Day 5
