Located to the East of Russia’s popular tourist destination Lake Baikal, Ulan-Ude is a city bustling with tourist activity and is the gateway for the Trans-Mongolian Railway that travels from Ulan-Ude to Beijing via Ulaanbaatar. The city’s close proximity to the Mongolian border and well-established transport links into Asia have allowed the city to form a unique cultural identity as the center of Buddhism in Russia.

Day 1

Arrival in Ulan Ude with City Tour

Welcome to Ulan Ude! Your guide and driver will pick you up from your scheduled arrival point (airport / railway station) and take you to a local restaurant for breakfast before embarking on a full city tour where you will visit the most famous attractions in the city including Soviet’s Square, Rinpoche Bagsha and the Odigitrievsky Cathedral.

Day 2

Visiting Ivoginsky Datsan and the Old Believer’s Village

After breakfast, you will meet your guide and driver at your hotel before setting off to the Ivolginsky Datsan. This complex of Buddhist monasteries is considered to be the heart of Buddhism in Russia and was the residence of the Central Spiritual board of Buddhists of the USSR.

Day 3

Take Part in traditional Buryat cooking masterclass and tea tasting ceremony

Enjoy a relaxed start to the day with breakfast followed by a visit to a local Buryat Village in the Atsagat Valley. Here, you will visit memorial house-museum of Agvan Dorzhiev before heading to the Atsagatsky Datsan for a personal talk with a local philosopher-monk. After your Datsan visit, you will explore the “Steppe nomad” Ethno-complex. Learn more about the traditions of the Buryat people through national games and even get to try your hand at shooting from a Mongolian-Buryat bow.

Travel to

Gremyachinsk (Buryatia)

A quaint rural settlement situated on the eastern edge of Lake Baikal, in the Republic of Buryatia, Russia. Gremyachinsk is best known for its secluded yet beautiful views of the lake and for its scenic nature trails. Although it has grown in popularity as a resort area over recent years, it has still retained its quiet and authentic charm and offers a glimpse of local life around Lake Baikal.

Day 4

Omul Cooking Masterclass at Lake Baikal

Enjoy a spot of breakfast at the hotel before embarking on the 140km journey to Gremyachinsk. On arrival in Gremyachinsk, you will check into the Hotel Baikalskaya Riviera before having some free time to go for a walk in the beautiful surroundings.

Day 5

Transfer to Ulan Ude

Enjoy a final breakfast in Gremyachisk before checking out of your hotel and meeting your driver who will take you back to Ulan Ude. After arriving in Ulan Ude, you can check into your hotel before enjoying some free time to do any more exploring or shopping. In the evening, a final festive meal will be prepared to mark your Buryat experience.

Day 6

Departure from Ulan Ude
