Yeniseysk
Situated on the Yenisei River in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Yeniseysk is a small town founded in the early 17th century. The town was the first to be founded on the Yenisei River from which it derives its name and was vital in the Russian colonisation of East Siberia in the 17th–18th centuries. Although the town later dwindled in importance due to the strategic railroad being due south, the Yeniseysk Old Town has been considered a heritage site by the Russian government.
Day 4
Visit to the ancient churches of Yeniseysk
After a camp breakfast, you will say goodbye to your campsite and begin the journey to Yeniseysk.
Yeniseysk is one of the most ancient Siberian towns. The town’s past is closely connected to the history of the unification of Eastern Siberia and Russia and for around 150 years this town was the main gate to Eastern Siberia and “the father” of all Siberian towns. During your city tour, you will see the Church of Iver women monastery, the Saviour Cathedral, the male monastery of the Holy Transfiguration, the Church of the Resurrection and more. You will also get the chance to talk to the Father Superior, Nikonor.
After your city tour you will visit a local art school for children for an opportunity to take part in art making masterclass, before embarking on an excursion to an authentic Cossack farmstead for horseback riding in a phaeton and the chance for photographs in Cossack costumes.
In the evening, you will return to Krasnoyarsk where you will check into your hotel and spend the evening.
