Is Mongolia visa-free?

Nationals of a select few countries can visit Mongolia visa-free for a specified period of time. The duration the visa is valid for will depend on your nationality and can range from 14 to 90 days. Unfortunately, visa-free entry into Mongolia is not available for UK citizens at this time.

Mongolia visa-free countries for ordinary passport holders*:

USA, Malaysia, Israel, Cuba, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Georgia, Belarus, Kirgizstan, Moldavia, Tajikistan, Laos.

*Official and diplomatic passport holders from China, Russia, Turkey and India may also qualify for visa-free entry to Mongolia.

How long does it take to get a Mongolian visa?

This will depend on the type of visa you need as well as the processing and delivery options chosen. A standard Mongolian tourist visa service for UK nationals will take 6 business days to process at the Consulate in addition to the days necessary for us to process your application, collate the information to send to the Consulate and delivery. We also offer an express service which will cut down the processing time for Mongolian tourist visas to 2 business days.

How do I understand my Mongolian visa?

Mongolian visas typically include your personal information, passport number and duration of stay. See our How to read a Mongolian visa page to find out more.

How much does a Mongolian visa cost?

The price of your Mongolian visa will vary depending on your nationality, the type of visa you want and how quickly you need your application processed. To find out how much your visa will cost, please follow the steps on our main Mongolia visa application page.

How can I check on the progress of my visa or support application?

To check on the progress of your application with us, please click here and then enter in your application reference number. If you have lost this, then please contact us.

Can I make changes to my Mongolian visa application?

This will largely depend on how far your application has progressed. If we have not sent the application to the Consulate for processing then changes may be possible, although this may incur an alteration fee in some cases depending on what details need to be changed. If you have provided us with the wrong details or forgotten about something, please contact us immediately and we will see what we can do.

Can I get a Mongolian visa at the border?

Unfortunately it is not possible to get a visa at the border. All visa applications would need to be made prior to entering the country. See our Mongolian visa page to apply for your visa today!

What documents do I need to provide with my Mongolian visa application pack?

The documents you need for us to submit your application to the Consulate depend on your nationality. In some cases you may be required to apply directly at the Consulate in person. Passport holders of the UK require the following:

  1. A completed and signed visa application form.
  2. Your passport (with at least two blank pages and valid for at least 6 months after the end of the requested visa).
  3. A single recent colour passport photograph.
  4. Confirmation of inbound and outbound flights or train bookings (either a copy of the tickets or reservations).
  5. Confirmation of accommodation in Mongolia for each day of your stay.
  6. Payment (if not paying online).

What do I do if my visa is lost or stolen?

If your visa is lost or stolen, you will need to apply for a new exit visa.

Firstly, you will need to contact a local police department and request an official statement confirming that your visa was lost. We recommend stating that your documents were lost, not stolen as this can make processing a replacement visa easier.

After these steps, you need to get a new passport from the British Embassy in Mongolia.

If I plan to travel on the Trans-Mongolian, can you help me to obtain Mongolian and Russian visas as well?

Yes, of course we can. We will process all necessary visas ‘back-to-back’ and return your passport with all three visas when they are complete. See following links for further details:

If my Mongolian visa application is refused, or I change my mind, will I be able to get a refund?

Once you have completed your visa application, we start processing this immediately upon receipt of your order, therefore we are only able to refund the consulate tariff and postage cost if you cancel your order before we submit your visa application to the Mongolian Consulate.

If you have already submitted your application to the Mongolian Consulate when you cancel your order, or in the unlikely event that your visa application is refused, we will be unable to provide a refund unfortunately.
